Marine Aquaculture Section

This Section will perform the following activities:

(i)           Promote mariculture development in potential areas;

(ii)          Coordinate and provide mechanisms for restocking of marine waters;

(iii)        Develop and review mariculture development strategies and plans to ensure sustainability in mariculture and social livelihoods;

(iv)        Monitor and promote the mechanism to maintain safety and quality of mariculture products;

(v)         Promote expansion of viable mariculture technologies appropriate for small, medium and large scale;

(vi)        Collaborate and liaise with national, regional and international organizations involved in mariculture development;

(vii)      Initiate and implement FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Aquaculture to provide guideline to address environmental and social issues

(viii)     Coordinate risk assessment, prevent entry of exotic species and Genetic Modified Organisms (GMOs);

(ix)        Prepare guidelines for aqua-farms; hatchery and nursery management; and

(x)         Promote the involvement of private sector and civil societies in aquaculture.

This Section will be led by an Assistant Director.
